The Outer Queen Charlotte Track allows us to show you the wilderness lands north of Ship Cove including private walking tracks on the Cape Jackson peninsula.
Because the track extends from the tranquil waters of Ship Cove to the rugged coastal environment of the Cape Jackson lighthouse, it offers a variety of forest wildlife and scenery of a different dimension to other walks in the area.
The quality of track from Ship Cove to Cape Jackson varies from a well marked route to a well trodden path. It is suitable for people with a good level of fitness and experience but because a seaway runs beside the track, this section can be bypassed depending on your tour choice. The tracks on the peninsula itself are of a very high standard and suitable for almost everybody.
Cape Jackson is an isolated peninsula in the Queen Charlotte Sound of the Marlborough Sounds and home to the Queen Charlotte Wilderness Park. Originally a large sheep station, the property is now a unique private mainland native wildlife sanctuary allowed to revert to native forest, our home and your accommodation provider.
As well as providing environmental services such as carbon sequestration and native forest restoration and protection, it also provides accommodation for nature-loving visitors who often come to reestablish their priorities away from the clamouring pressures of our modern world by visiting a place the way it was meant to be.
We are very privileged to call it home and to be able to provide a magnificent opportunity to visit this and other outer sound areas with a variety of different tour packages.
